Image Presented To Church

On 29 October 2019 a fire destroyed part of the United Church complex in Somerset West where we hold our meetings. Luckily for our club, the hall we use was not damaged and we were able to meet there just ten days after the fire.

At that meeting one of our members, Rachel Gemmell, took photos of the smoke and water damage with her phone. Recently she decided to use one of them in an artwork that could be framed and presented to the church to commemorate the recovery and rebuilding after the fire. Rachel approached Peter Dewar, our club’s most skilled Photoshop guru, for assistance. Peter combined one of Rachel’s images with one of a crucifix from his own archive to produce the image above and create a large print from it.

Our club carried the cost of having it framed and the Bible verse Isaiah 61:3 was inscribed on the back.

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

It was presented to the church at our club meeting last week.
